Can You Use an Electric Toothbrush with Dental Implants?
Dental implants (and other complex dentistry such as bridgework and crowns) may mean that you approach cleaning your teeth at home with a new routine but, don’t worry: you’ll still be able to use your electric toothbrush after implant treatment.
Advice from Hygienists
Our dental hygienists will tell you that maintaining a healthy plaque-free mouth is the secret to ensuring that modern dental treatments such as implants continue to function properly for many years. Your new, implant teeth will need regular cleaning and maintenance in the same way that normal teeth do. As part of your twice-daily brushing routine, our hygienists advise that you pay special attention to interdental cleaning using appropriately sized brushes.
Interdental Brush Heads
Electric toothbrushes are an excellent tool for maintaining oral hygiene at home. Many brands have introduced interdental brush heads that can be swapped out with the regular brush head for more targeted cleaning between teeth, and around the gumline where the crown is held in place by the implant.
If you normally use an electric toothbrush, take the opportunity to speak to your hygienist about the best attachments for this purpose.
