Why Has My Dentist Referred Me to Norfolk Dental Specialists?
At Norfolk Dental Specialists, we are able to offer an additional tier of specialist treatment to support general dentistry. General dental practitioners carry out routine check- ups and procedures which should keep your teeth healthy and pain free and they are kept busy doing this for a whole swathe of the population. However, if they consider that they need a second opinion about a suspected or developing condition, that’s when your dentist will refer you to us.
Our Specialist Service
We support your dentist by offering treatment that they do not have the specialist skills to perform. Your dentist may refer you to us for a course of treatment that is not offered by general dentists, but that our specialist team is able to offer. However you are referred to us, our ultimate aim is to deliver the best outcome via treatments and procedures that help to restore and maintain your oral health.
Our Specialist Treatments
Here are some of the treatments available from Norfolk Dental Specialists. If your dentist thinks that these are appropriate treatments for you, s/he can refer you to us.
- Dental implants
- Advanced periodontal (gum disease) treatment
- Specialist endodontic (root canal) treatment
- Dental hygiene
- Surgical extractions (including wisdom teeth)
Process of Referral
At Norfolk dental specialists, we have built strong relationships with our referring dentists. Once a patient has been referred, we’ll keep in touch so that they know exactly what we have agreed to do for the patient and how the patient is progressing with our course of treatment. If a dentist wishes to discuss or review a patient’s treatment plan, then we are always available and we have an open-door policy – encouraging referring dentists to visit our practice and see what we have to offer.
Once your dentist has referred you, one of our specialists will see you as soon as their diary allows. Your initial consultation will give you peace of mind. Our specialist will prepare a written report and both you and your dentist will receive a copy.
Anne’s Story
Anne was referred to us by her dentist, who had diagnosed her with periodontal gum disease. Anne was concerned that she might lose her teeth if this was not properly treated. Our detailed assessment revealed that we could treat the gum disease and save Anne’s teeth. Anne was delighted with the treatment and education she received from our dental specialists.
“No one had ever explained or spent the time to go into detail about how to maintain a healthy mouth before. I am delighted.”
You can see more of Anne's story and view other patients' stories on our website.
Symptoms of Gum Disease
Approximately 50% of adults in the UK have gum disease. If you have any of the following symptoms, you should talk to your dentist about available courses of action.
- Gums that are red or swollen
- Gums that bleed after brushing or flossing
- Halitosis
- Nasty taste in your mouth
- Wobbly teeth
- Abscesses (a build-up of pus under your gums)
A good oral hygiene routine and a biannual check-up may not always be enough to keep your gums pink and healthy. If you notice any of these symptoms, immediately book an extra visit to your dentist and ask about advanced periodontal treatment.
