Why Has My Dentist Referred Me to a Specialist?
Dentistry is much like other branches of medicine in that your regular appointments will typically be at the same registered practice who will handle all the everyday care that your teeth require. Your dentist is similar to your GP in this respect.
Very occasionally something may crop up, or you may request a treatment that is outside of the general care remit of standard dentistry. In these special cases, your dentist may refer to a dental specialist.
What is a dental specialist?
A dental specialist is a dentist who has undergone additional training and qualifications in a particular area of dentistry. This extra training allows them to provide specialised care and treatments for complex dental issues.
Norfolk Dental Specialists offers three main areas of specialist dental care:
Implant Dentistry
- Dental implants offer a modern solution for replacing missing teeth.
- Implants provide a stable foundation for crowns, bridges, or dentures.
- They are designed to last a lifetime, offering a long-term solution for tooth replacement.
Periodontal Treatment
- Our team of gum disease experts is trusted by dentists across Norfolk.
- We offer advanced periodontal treatments for conditions like gingivitis and periodontitis.
- Our treatments are designed to be safe, effective, and minimally invasive.
Prosthodontics
- Prosthodontics focuses on the reconstruction and replacement of missing teeth.
- Treatment aims to improve both function and appearance.
- We use a variety of materials, including ceramics and composites, to create natural-looking restorations.
After specialist treatment
Once your specialist treatment is complete, you will return to your general dentist for ongoing care. However, we recommend regular visits to our dental hygienists for focused maintenance to ensure the long-term success of your treatment and overall oral health.
Self-referral
At Norfolk Dental Specialists, we welcome both dentist referrals and self-referrals. If you believe you may benefit from specialist dental care, please contact our reception for more information.
